Addressing a Letterpress Invitation For Divorced Grooms Parents
A common problem for brides today is the proper way to address wedding invitations if the grooms parents are divorced and/or remarried. The question would one how to reword the invitation with three different sets of parents and include all of them?
As a general rule the parents who are paying for the wedding would be the ones that are listed on the invitation. For instance, If the brides parents are paying for the wedding, it would be correct etiquette not to include the names of the grooms mother and father. If she chooses the bride could word the invitation to include the names of al the parents. Here are a few ideas on how to do this:
The parents of
Brides name and grooms name
have the honor of announcing
at the marriage of their children
Two Thousand Ten
at the time of your wedding
St. Johns Church
address
city, state
Mr. and Mrs. brides parents name
Mr. and Mrs. Grooms Mother name and step father name
Mr. and Mrs. Grooms Father name and step mother name
Another way to do this would be to treat it more like a formal invitation like so.
Mr. and Mrs. Brides Parents names
request the honor of your presence
at the marriage of their daughter
Brides full name
to
grooms full name
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Mothers New Name
Mr. and Mrs. Grooms Father Full Name.
Two Thousand Ten
at the time of your wedding
St. Johns Church
address
city, state
Please remember that a wedding is a time to stress positive relationships and build relationships not harm them any further. It might prove in better taste to be neutral and leave them off entirely. The above is not written in stone and there can be variations of this as well. But I hope this helps get you going in the right direction.
